• Systems Engineer

Description

A Systems Engineer is required to join our proactive team within our rapidly expanding Cloud / IaaS and Network Operations centre. The role is to provide 2nd and 3rd line support to clients and our underlying cloud infrastructure. You should have at least 5 years experience within a virtualised IT environment (preferably knowledge of KVM, VMware, Xen or HyperV). Key Activities Developing and maintaining our Internal and customer facing cloud platforms, networks, client solutions and services, in a fast paced service provider environment. Ideally this person will be as much of a Network Engineer as a System Administrator. The Systems Engineer will be required to perform core systems development, maintenance, customer support, as well as working on new projects. Be capable of working independently, accurately and have a flexible approach to working hours and travel. Desired Skills & Experience Good knowledge of hardware and network peripherals, in particular, servers, switches, routers and Storage Arrays. Comprehensive experience of Linux system administration, in particular, Ubuntu, Centos and Debian Comprehensive experience of Microsoft’s core technologies, in particular, Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, Terminal Services and IIS. Comprehensive knowledge of primary internet services, in particular, Bind DNS, MAIL, Apache. Good database knowledge specifically of MSSQL and MySQL. Excellent working knowledge of virtualisation technology including KVM, VMware, Xen or HyperV. Good working knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6 networks, firewalls, VPN, SNMP, monitoring, backup and disaster recovery of systems. Programming skills would be a distinct advantage in particular, HTML, PHP, Perl and SQL. Ability to document and project plan. Ability to follow multiple simultaneous projects to completion with minimal supervision. Ability to effectively communicate with customers on the phone. Ability to assist in pre and after sales support where necessary. Additional Information This position is managed as part of the companies day shift Rota, and the post holder will be required to work different shifts between the hours of 07:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday. The post holder may also be required to participate in out-of-hours support activities, for which an additional allowance will be paid.
